Overview

Over two days in Cairo, you will explore some of Egypt’s most famous ancient sites. A Visitors Egypt Tours representative will pick you up from the airport, and a guide will accompany you as you visit the Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus. As you move through the Giza plateau, you will also see the Great Sphinx — the head of a pharaoh on a lion’s body, dating back to the time of Chephren. The visit continues to the Step Pyramids of Zoser, the world’s oldest major stone structure, built in the 3rd Dynasty (around 2630 BC) for King Djoser. On the second day, you will have an excursion to the Egyptian Museum, which features artefacts from the Pharaonic period. The museum displays a rare collection spanning 5,000 years of art and presents over 250,000 genuine artefacts. You will then proceed to the Salah el din Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, which was designed by the architect Yousif Boushnaq, a Turkish man who came from Istanbul specifically to build the mosque for Mohamed Ali. Along the way, your guide will provide context for the sites and their historical significance.
