Overview

This trip gives you a good opportunity to experience Egypt across its major historical eras. You begin at the Pyramids of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and see the Valley Temple built for mummification alongside the Great Sphinx. You then visit the Egyptian Museum, the oldest museum in Egypt, which contains more than 80,000 pieces of Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities, where you will learn about a wide span of ancient material culture. As you move into later periods, you will go to the Citadel to see the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, also called the Alabaster Mosque, and view examples of art from the Islamic eras. From the Citadel you will also get a panoramic view over Old Cairo. Finally you will explore Old Cairo, or Coptic Cairo, known as the complex of religions: here you will see the Roman-era Babylon Fortress, various churches and the Jewish temple, and the Mosque of Amr ibn al‑As. Along the way the experience links the major monuments and religious sites that shaped Egypt’s long history.
