Overview
Over three days you will explore Egypt’s ancient past and later cultural layers, moving from the age of the pharaohs to Islamic and Christian sites, and ending with Greek and Roman remains in Alexandria. On the first day you will visit the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, then head to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid. You will go inside the Pyramid of Teti and view the Old Mastaba of Kagemni, the vizier, before visiting Memphis, the first capital of united Egypt. On the second day you will learn more about ancient Egyptian civilisation at the museum, where you will see the mummies of pharaohs. Along the way you will explore Islamic heritage at the Ibn Tulun Mosque and the bazaar of Khan El Khalili. You will also experience Egypt’s Christian sites by visiting the Hanging Church and the Cavern Church to learn about their history. The third day is devoted to Alexandria, where Greek and Roman influences are visible. You will explore the Catacombs and the Roman pillar, see Qaitbay Fort, and view the Bibliotheca of Alexandria from the outside. The visit will finish with a look at the modern Stanley Bridge and the sea, offering a contrast between ancient remains and the contemporary city.
