Overview

You will travel by sleeper train from Cairo to Luxor and spend time touring the city's major ancient monuments. In and around Luxor you will visit the vast Karnak and Luxor Temples, where monumental pylons, columns and avenues of sphinxes frame the ancient religious centre. Along the way you will see the Colossi of Memnon standing on the west bank of the Nile and explore the funerary landscape that surrounds them. You will also visit the Valley of the Kings and the striking mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, seeing royal tombs and temple architecture that tell the story of pharaonic burial practices. The programme includes visits to Dendera and to Medinet Habu, allowing you to compare different temple styles and reliefs across the region. After your visits, you will return to Cairo.
