Alexandria's Roman Heritage - From Cairo

Overview

Early in the morning a Menatours representative will collect you from your hotel in Cairo to start the trip to Alexandria, the city often called the Bride of the Mediterranean. Along the way you'll travel to some of the city's most famous historic sites. In Alexandria you will visit the 15th-century Fort of Qaitbay, a coastal defensive fortress standing on the Mediterranean. You will see Pompey’s Pillar, a 28-metre-high column dating from the third century, raised in honour of Emperor Diocletian. The Catacomb of Kom Al Shukafa is also included; this is the largest Roman cemetery in the area, with three levels cut into the rock to a depth of about 100 feet and showing a blend of Pharaonic and Roman art dating back to the turn of the second century. You will also view the Alexandria library from outside. Lunch is included.
