Overview
You will be picked up from your hotel to visit some of Cairo’s most famous mosques and the historic market nearby. At the Citadel of Cairo you will see the Muhammad Ali Mosque, also called the Alabaster Mosque, which was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848. Nearby you will find the Al‑Rifa'i Mosque in Citadel Square, now serving as the royal mausoleum of Muhammad Ali’s family. As you move through the old city, you will also visit the Mosque‑Madrasa of Sultan Hasan in Salah al‑Din Square, a monumental complex built between 1356 and 1363 and commissioned by Sultan an‑Nasir Hasan. You will see the Mosque of al‑Hakim, a historic building constructed between 985 and 1021 AD, and the Mosque of Ahmed ibn Tulun, notable for being one of the oldest mosques in Egypt and Africa to survive in its full original form and the largest in Cairo by land area. The tour concludes with a visit to Khan Elkhalili Market, the most attractive site in the area, where you can move among stalls and soak up the atmosphere of this long‑standing market quarter.
