Overview
A company representative will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo and transfer you to Alexandria for a full-day visit. In the city you will see Pompey’s Pillar, a Roman monument constructed in honour of the Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century; it originally stood by the temple of Serapis and was once part of a much larger complex. You will also visit the Catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery in Alexandria, carved into three levels of rock. After lunch at a local restaurant in Alexandria, you will continue to the Qaitbay Citadel, which was built on the site of Alexandria’s ancient pharaohs’ lighthouse. The day ends with a visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library that commemorates the city’s long cultural history. You will then be driven back to your hotel in Cairo.
