Overview
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan and accompany you for a day of exploration around two of the city’s important ancient sites. At the Unfinished Obelisk you'll see the quarry where the stone was being carved and the visible marks that reveal ancient Egyptian techniques used to shape obelisks. The monument is believed to belong to Queen Hatshepsut, a prominent ruler of the 18th Dynasty and royal wife of King Tuthmosis II, although some speculate it could be associated with Queen Nefertiti. You will then visit Philae Temple, an island complex dedicated to the goddess Isis, who was the island’s chief deity. As you move through the temple you’ll explore its courts, terraces and inner chambers and learn about the religious role the site played in antiquity. The experience ends with a comfortable transfer back to your hotel in Aswan, leaving you with a clearer sense of the craftsmanship and religious life of ancient Egypt.
