Overview

Your guide will collect you from your hotel in Cairo or Giza and transfer you to Islamic Cairo to begin your visit. You will see the Citadel of Saladin, the fortification that Salah al‑Din had built in 1183 AD to protect the city, and explore the neighbouring Mohamed Ali Mosque. Along the way the guide will point out historical and architectural features of the citadel and its role in Cairo’s past. You will also visit the Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque, noted for its Ottoman‑style design by architect Yousif Boushnaq; its layout and domes resemble the Sultan Ahmed (Blue) Mosque on a smaller scale. The tour will include visits to the Al Rifai Mosque and the Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan, where you can observe differing mosque architectures and learn about their designs and significance as you move through Islamic Cairo.
