Overview

With an Egypt Vibes Egyptologist, you’ll explore the Great Pyramids of Giza, the sole surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, dating back 2,000 years earlier. You’ll see the Sphinx, a colossal statue with a lion’s body and the head of King Chaperon, standing beside a vast funerary complex. Along the way you’ll visit the Papyrus Institute Papyrus Museum and stop at a perfume factory, a bazaar, cotton shops and a jewellery shop to learn about traditional crafts and materials used in ancient and modern Egypt. You’ll also visit the Great Necropolis Sakkara to see the Step Pyramid, described as the first rock-cut building in Egypt and created by the architect Imhotep for third Dynasty pharaoh Djoser. As you move through the sites, you’ll hear about how pyramid design evolved from simple mastabas to the better-known pyramid form. The day continues at Dahshur, the site built by King Senefru that followed Djoser’s work in Saqqara, where you’ll explore the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, said to be the first true pyramid in Egypt. Your visit will finish with a buffet of authentic Egyptian cuisine at a local restaurant before you return to your Cairo hotel.
