You will visit the Giza Pyramids and Sakkara, some of the most notable ancient sites in Egypt located east of the Nile river. At Giza you will see the three major monuments that form a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Mycerinos. These structures date back to the fourth dynasty and illustrate the scale and skill of ancient Egyptian builders. At Sakkara you will explore the Step Pyramid, the oldest pyramid in Egypt. Built in the 27th century BCE for Pharaoh Djoser, the Step Pyramid represents an important moment in funerary architecture and the development of pyramid design. Along the way you will gain a sense of how these sites relate to one another historically and geographically, and you will have the chance to view lasting examples of ancient Egyptian engineering and royal burial practices.
