Overview

Begin your day with visits to some of Cairo’s most important Islamic sites, starting at the Islamic Museum. Considered one of the world’s great collections, the museum displays rare woodwork and plaster artefacts alongside metal, ceramic, glass, crystal and textile objects from across the Islamic world and from many periods. You will also see the striking Sultan Hassan and El Refaii mosques, and the Sultan Hassan complex—often called the pearl of Islamic architecture—built in the 14th century by Sultan Hassan ibn Mohammed ibn Qalawoun as a mosque and school. You will explore Al Azhar, the first mosque of Fatimid Cairo, notable for its three minarets, one of which is a twin minaret from the age of Sultan Al Gohari. As you move through the old city, El Moez Street will take you from Bab Al-Futuh in the north to Bab Zuweila in the south. Its northern stretch runs from the Al-Hakim mosque to the spice market on Al-Azhar Street, while the southern part extends from the Ghuriya complex down to Bab Zuweila. Bottled water is included.
