Overview
This full-day tour will take you to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and into Cairo’s historic Coptic Area. As you move through the museum and the neighbourhood, you will visit the Hanging Church, which sits above the gatehouse of the Babylon Fortress (a Roman fortress) and dates to the 3rd century. You will also explore the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga), built over a cave where Joseph, the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus are said to have stayed for three months; it is one of the oldest Coptic churches in Egypt. Along the way you will stop for a local lunch of koshari at a neighbourhood restaurant, and snacks will be provided during the day. The tour continues to downtown Cairo where you will go to the pier and board a traditional Egyptian felucca for a relaxing sail on the Nile. The itinerary blends museum exhibits, ancient churches and a peaceful river experience, giving you both historical context and time to take in the city from the water.
