Overview

This experience offers an in-depth, Egyptologist-style exploration of Egypt’s pharaonic, Islamic and Coptic civilisations, combining archaeological highlights with coastal history. Along the way you will gain context and insight into lesser-seen corners of classical Egypt as well as its well-known monuments. You will visit Djoser’s complex at Saqqara, dating to the 3rd Dynasty (around 2650 BC), and see the Serapeum of Saqqara with its 100‑ton ‘boxes’ and the mystery that surrounds them. You will also view the Red and the Bent Pyramids at Dahshur, built for King Sneferu, father of King Khufu (Cheops) of the Fourth Dynasty. The tour continues to Alexandria, where you will see the 10th‑century AD fortress of Qaitbay, the early Virgin Mary church from the third century, and a number of archaeological sites including the Tombs of the Nobles, the Village of the Artisans, the Ramessium and the tomb of Ramose, as well as the Temple of Amenhotep III. Along the way you will be able to connect these places to the broader story of ancient Egypt and its later cultural layers.
