Overview

A Tia Tours Egypt representative will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Alexandria, where a private tour guide will lead you around some of the city’s most ancient monuments. You will visit Pompey's Pillar, erected in honour of the Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century and originally part of the temple of Serapis. Along the way you’ll learn how the monument once formed part of a magnificent complex that rivalled the Soma and the Caesarean. You will also explore the Catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery in the area, carved into three levels of rock. Lunch at a local Alexandria restaurant is included. Afterward you’ll see the Qaitbay Citadel, built on the site of the ancient pharaohs’ lighthouse of Alexandria, and spend time at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Throughout the day your guide will share historical context and stories that help you get to know the city and its ancient landmarks.
