Overview
Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo and take you in a modern air-conditioned private car for the 100 km journey to the El Fayoum Oasis. At the oasis you can stop by the lake of Qaroun to enjoy countryside life beside the water, see different types of emigrated birds and view the surrounding farmland. Along the way you will travel through desert scenery to Wadi El Rayan, where a waterfall sits in the middle of the arid landscape. You will also visit Wadi Hitan, the Valley of the Whales, located within the Protected Area of Wadi El Rayan. This site was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in recognition of the 40-million-year-old whale skeletons found there. The tour concludes with a visit to Medinet Madi (Ancient City Uncovered), which dates back to the third pharaonic dynasty and was built by Amenemhet III. After the visits, your tour guide will drop you back at your hotel.
