Overview

Visit Luxor’s west bank, often called the capital of the Pharaohs, to explore a landscape of rock-cut tombs and monumental temples where ancient Egyptians carried out funerary and religious rituals. You will walk among tombs and temples carved into the rocky hills, and see the scenes and inscriptions that decorate their walls and appear in the papyri that have been found. As you move through the west bank sites, your visit includes the Valley of the Kings temple area and the famous Tomb of Tutankhamun, along with the striking funerary temple of Hatshepsut. You will also see the mortuary complex at Medinet Habu, the Valley of the Queens and the Nefertari cemetery, and the Ramessium temple. Along the way you will learn about the royal burials and the ritual art that honours pharaohs and queens, and observe the carved reliefs and paintings that illustrate their beliefs about the afterlife.
