Private luxor Tour: Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut & Memnon

Overview

Your representative will pick you up from your hotel in Luxor to explore the city’s West Bank. You will start at the Valley of the Kings, where you will see the magnificent architecture that served as the tombs of many pharaohs and learn about its role in ancient royal burial practices. You will then visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, built by Hatshepsut, daughter of Thutmose I. She ruled during the Eighteenth Dynasty for about twenty years (c. 1490–1469 BC) and is known as the only female pharaoh to have ruled ancient Egypt. As you move through the temple complex, you will see its distinctive design and hear about Hatshepsut’s place in Egypt’s history. Along the way you will stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two colossal stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Each statue stands about 18 metres tall and was carved from a single block of quartzite. These striking figures mark an impressive finale to your West Bank visit.
