Overview

Your guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to the Giza Plateau, where the only remaining wonder of the Ancient World still stands. You will see the legendary Pyramids of Giza and the iconic Sphinx, then stop at a local restaurant for an Egyptian lunch with your guide. After lunch you will visit the Citadel of Mohamed Ali and be introduced to the Turkish-designed mosque of Mohamed Ali (also called the Alabaster Mosque). You will then explore Coptic Cairo: see the Hanging Church, which dates back to the 3rd century AD and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and visit the Church of Saint Sergius and Bacchus. As you move through the area you will also see the Church of St. George the Martyr, built into the walls of the Fort of Babylon and whose remains could be among Cairo’s oldest structures. The tour ends with a visit to the Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra and may include the mosque of Amr Ibn El-Aas, the oldest mosque in Egypt. You will be transferred back to your hotel at the end of the day.
