Overview

From Sharm el Sheikh, you’ll set out before dawn to reach the summit of Mount Sinai, one of Egypt’s highest peaks at 2,285 metres (7,497 feet). As you climb in the predawn darkness, the landscape will be quiet and still. At the top, the first rays of light will gradually reveal the mountaintop chapel and mosque, their outlines becoming visible as the sun rises over the horizon. You’ll experience the calm of the summit as daylight spreads across the surrounding desert. After the sunrise, your descent leads to the Monastery of St. Catherine, a 6th-century complex set at the site traditionally associated with Moses and the Burning Bush. The monastery is rich in history and spiritual significance; you’ll see its ancient architecture and take in the collection of religious art. Inside, the monastery houses manuscripts, icons and other artefacts that reflect centuries of devotion. Along the way through the site, you’ll have the chance to observe these treasures and the atmosphere that has shaped this place for generations.
