Tour to Alexandria from Cairo by Car

Overview

A tamer safari representative will collect you from your hotel in Cairo and transfer you to Alexandria for a full-day excursion. Along the way in the city you will visit Pompay’s Pillar, described here as having been built in honour of the Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century. Originally from the temple of the Serapis, it was once part of a magnificent complex said to rival the Soma and the Caesarean. You will then see the Catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery in the area, which consists of three levels cut into the rock. Lunch at a local restaurant in Alexandria is included. After lunch you will proceed to the Qaitbay Citadel, built on the site of the ancient pharaohs’ lighthouse of Alexandria, and then visit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Finally, you will be driven back to your hotel in Cairo. Throughout the day you will move between these historic sites and learn about their origins and significance as you explore Alexandria’s coastal heritage.
