Tour to Dendera and Abydos Temples

Overview

A Tamer Safari Tours representative will pick you up from your hotel in Luxor and take you to two important ancient sites south of the city. First you will visit Abydos, home to the Temple of Seti I, begun by King Seti I and completed by Ramsess II. Abydos was believed by the ancient Egyptians to be the burial place of the god Osiris, the Lord of the underworld. The Osiris Temple at Abydos contains paintings of gods and pharaohs that are among the most beautifully preserved in Egypt. Abydos lies in the city of the same name, about 420 km south of Cairo in the Sohag area, and roughly 135 km from Luxor. You will then continue to Dendera to see the Temple of Hathor, dedicated to the goddess of love and joy. Located to the north of Luxor, Dendera’s temple highlights a different aspect of ancient Egyptian religion and art. Along the way and at each site you will learn about the historical significance and the major figures associated with these temples as you explore their architecture and wall decorations.
