Overview

You will begin at the Egyptian Museum, where you can admire artifacts from Ancient Egypt as you move through its galleries. The displays will give a direct look at objects from that civilisation and provide context for Egypt’s long history. Next you will visit the Salah El Din Citadel, constructed in 1183 AD, and see the Mohamed Ali Mosque, which was built inside the castle in the 19th century. Along the way you will encounter landmarks that illustrate medieval and later periods of Egyptian history and architecture. The tour also includes Old Cairo, the site of a city that pre-dated Cairo. Here you will tour a neighbourhood known for many historic churches and a Roman fort, experiencing a very different layer of the city’s past as you move between these ancient sites.
